Webinar: Democracy Resilience and Media

On January 30, a webinar was held with the participation of representatives from civil society, media, and academia. This event provided an important platform for discussing current developments and challenges related to media freedom in Georgia and the wider region.

During the webinar, Prof. Mariam Gersamia, Chair of "Media Voice," presented new research exploring the instrumentalization of the law. This research is a critical part of the organization's ongoing efforts to explore the intersection of law, media freedom, and political pressure in the region.

Prof. Gersamia also shared exciting updates regarding the expansion of the organization’s operations with the official registration of "Media Voice Europe" in Estonia. This new entity, opens up opportunities for collaboration with other international organizations and media freedom advocates across Europe.

"Media Voice" is committed to using this new partnership to strengthen its advocacy work and build a more resilient media environment.

Under the framework of a Memorandum of Cooperation, "Media Voice" and "Media Voice Europe" will work together on joint activities aimed at protecting media freedom in the region. These activities will include organizing campaigns, research, and capacity-building initiatives that will strengthen the ability of local and regional media outlets to operate independently and without fear of legal or political repression. The collaboration will also allow both organizations to expand their reach and further their mission of defending democratic values and media rights.

The webinar also provided a space for participants to share their experiences and discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by media organizations in navigating restrictive legal environments. These conversations highlighted the importance of solidarity and mutual support among media organizations and civil society groups in the face of growing threats to free expression and press freedom.

"Media Voice" extends its sincere gratitude to the "Black Sea Trust" for its generous support, which made this webinar and other related activities possible.
